Split-Flap Board is built to do its job without knowing anything about you. No accounts, no cloud, no tracking.
No accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Nothing you create is sent to a server we run.
Your messages, playlists, photos and settings are stored on your device. There is no account to create and nothing is synced to a server run by us.
Live feeds are off until you turn them on. When enabled, your device contacts the relevant provider directly — the request never passes through us.
If you enable the weather feed and allow location access, the app uses your approximate location — accurate to about a kilometre, not your precise position — to look up local conditions through Apple WeatherKit and to name your city. You can skip location entirely and type a city instead. Location is used only to fetch current weather. It is never stored by us, never linked to your identity, and never used for advertising or tracking.
The news feed fetches headlines from the source you pick — Google News, NPR, BBC World, Hacker News or ESPN — or from a custom RSS feed address you enter. As with visiting any website, that provider can see your device's IP address. No personal information is sent, and each provider is governed by its own privacy policy.
The stocks feed uses a free API key that you supply from Alpha Vantage. The ticker symbols you choose and your key are sent to Alpha Vantage to retrieve quotes, governed by their privacy policy. Without a key the feature stays idle.
AI messages are generated using Apple Intelligence on-device models. Your prompts and generated text stay on the device and are not sent to us.
The Background Image theme asks permission to access your photo library or camera only when you choose a background. Images you select stay on the device.
The optional REST API lets other devices on your own Wi-Fi send messages to the board, protected by a token you choose. It is off by default and nothing is sent over the internet.
The optional premium unlock is processed by the App Store. We do not see or store your payment details.
Everything lives on your device, so deleting the app erases it. If your device backs up to iCloud your board data may be included in that backup, under your control and governed by Apple's privacy policy — we have no access to it. Because we hold no personal data, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on your behalf.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
Effective 6 October 2026. The app’s App Store privacy label lists approximate location under “Data Not Linked to You,” used only for app functionality. Privacy practices vary based on the features you choose to enable.
